A water bottle that a child brings to the child care center from home and that is used only for water consumption shall be labeled with the name of the child to whom the water bottle belongs, individually stored in the child`s cubby, and sent home with the child at the end of the day. .2818(a)- Observed a child use the food prep handwashing sink to fill his water bottle. Water from a handwash lavatory shall not be used for consumption. EHS discussed other ways to keep water on hand to refill water bottles and still meet the rule requirement. 5.0

23. .2817(a)- Observed clean sheets used for cots stored in a locked cabinet in the bathroom. Storage in toilet rooms shall be limited to toileting and diapering supplies. .2818(e)- Handwashing sign was missing at the food preparation handwashing sink. The other two handwashing sinks in the classroom were equipped with signage. Handwash signs shall be posted at every handwash lavatory area. The signs shall instruct children and child care center employees to wash their hands in accordance with Rule .2803 of this Section. 2.0
26. .2812(i)- Chlorine disinfectant in spray bottle showing a concentration of ~200ppm when tested. An approved disinfectant shall be provided for cleaning purposes. When a chlorine solution is prepared by an employee for use as an approved disinfectant, then the solution shall be prepared for use within 24 hours and a testing method shall be used to ensure compliance with the prescribed chlorine concentration. A chlorine disinfecting solution (concentration shall be between 500-800ppm) shall be used. 2.0

Lunches and other meals brought from home shall be dated and identified for the appropriate child at the child`s home and shall be returned to the child`s home or discarded at the end of each day. Meals containing potentially hazardous foods shall be refrigerated at 45°F (7°C) or below. Ensure parents are aware that lunches and other meals that are brought from home shall be identified for the child along with the date at the child`s home. 5.0
16. .2815(e)- Water accessible to children at the art handwashing sink is dispensing as high as 118F. Water in areas accessible to children shall be tempered between 80°F (27°C) and 110°F (43°C). Tempered water is within range at the other two handwashing sinks. Contact maintenance to adjust the hot water at this handwashing sink. 4.0
21. .2817(b)- There is no disinfectant solution provided in the classroom. Toilet fixtures shall be cleaned and disinfected at least daily and when visibly soiled. A disinfecting solution as set out in 15A NCAC 18A .2801(7) shall be used for this purpose. A testing method shall be made available to ensure compliance with the prescribed bleach solution concentration. To achieve the maximum germ reduction with bleach, the cleaned surfaces shall be left glistening wet with the bleach solution and allowed to air dry or be dried only after a minimum contact time of at least two minutes. Provide disinfectant solution mixed to the proper concentration (500-800ppm) for use in the bathroom. 4.0

General Comments
Effective October 1, 2019, childcare centers are required to test all water outlets used for drinking or food preparation. Initial samples shall be collected by the childcare center within one year of the effective date of this Rule (.2816). Non-compliance with this Rule on the initial inspection on/after October 1, 2020 will result in a general comment. Subsequent inspections with non-compliance to this Rule will be assessed 6-demerits.
