(Examples: Store these chemicals in closed or locked cabinets, drawers, or closets.) Strong odor is present at sink in modular building science lab classroom #804. The trap beneath this sink should be cleaned out by school system maintenance personnel. Classroom bathrooms should be clear of storage of classroom supplies, toys, furniture, student chairs, and equipment. Only items related to bathroom use or diapering should be in classroom bathrooms. Bathrooms are not clean storage locations. The storage of supplies in these class bathrooms is an impediment to the cleaning and repair of these restroom facilities. School building sanitation inspection completed.

One custodial closet unlocked and cleaning materials out unsecured in some rooms (for example, 505). Teacher work day and no students present. Please remember that all toxic materials shall be handled and stored per manufacturer's instructions. For many items, this will mean that they should be kept out of reach of children. Keep all custodian closets locked. Recommend that toxic materials marked "Keep Out of Reach of Children" be stored at least 5 feet above the ground and that toxic materials with any additional warnings be secured in a locked cabinet or storage room. Additionally, ensure that all containers of toxic materials are properly labeled. Clean stepstools and other equipment in special needs restrooms. Recommend that only toileting and changing items be stored in restrooms. Recommend removal of all other storage (for example, rooms 310, 311, 313.). Staff states that modular buildings are not being used in the coming school year. Modular buildings not evaluated during this inspection. Ensure that all modular buildings meet the standards laid forth in 15A NCAC 18A .2400-.2417 prior to bringing back into service. Room 514 has a snake and room 511 has turtles. I do not recommend handling reptiles due to samonella. If they are held by the students they would need to wash their hands. Storage on the floor in the art closet and in storage room 101N. Keep all storage 8" off the floor to facilitate cleaning. Increase the water pressure to above the mouthguard to the drinking fountain in the literacy lab. Vents are dirty in the library and 3 lights are out. I recommend providing a refrigerator thermometer in the nurses station refrigerator. Keep all aerosol cans, cleaning supplies, chemical wipes in a cabinet, drawer or locked the classrooms.

Thermometer is needed in special needs class kitchen refrigerator to monitor cold food storage temps. Items like milk cartons in refrigerator must be stored at a temp. of 45 degrees F. or less. Food utensils that are used in special needs classrooms must be washed, rinsed, and sanitized in the school cafeteria. Liquified foods served to special needs students must also be prepared in the school cafeteria. The special needs class kitchen is not a permitted facility for food preparation and does not meet the facility requirements for washing and sanitizizing utensils.
